Ash as a Hazardous Waste 

The Environmental Protection Agency is asking for your opinion on two proposals of how coal ash waste, a byproduct of coal-burning, is treated.

Concentrated levels of mercury, cadmium and other heavy metals means that coal ash should be treated as a hazardous waste with strong federal oversight. While we support Subtitle C (for clean!), neither option regulates the dumping of coal ash in mine shafts, where it can come in come into contact with ground water. Write the EPA today!
